Before law school, Michael served as an infantry officer in the United States Army. He was a passionate advocate for his soldiers facing legal troubles as a platoon leader and company commander which led him to a career in criminal defense.
Before coming to Brown, Bradshaw & Moffat, Michael worked as an appellate law clerk and clinical intern at the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association. There, he worked on state criminal cases ranging from minor traffic infractions to capital murder. He also participated in the CJA Third Year Mentor program, where he worked on various drug-related criminal cases in federal court.
Michael also worked with the Post-Conviction Clinic in conjunction with the Indigent Appellate Defense Division and ran the Veterans Legal Clinic through the SJQ Pro Bono Initiative. He was recognized as the University of Utah Student Veteran of the Year in 2023 for his work with indigent clients and the veteran community.
During his time in law school, Michael served as the Associate Managing Editor for the Utah Law Review and the Ski & Snowboard Club President.
Michael graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law where he also received a graduate certificate in Criminal Law.
Michael earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
